Passenger attack at Chorley Station - Appeal for witnesses

Police hunt for racist gang

THE police have launched a hunt for a gang of men who hurled racist abuse at an Asian man in Chorley railway station.

The British Transport Police appealed for witnesses after the group of young white men singled out a lone Asian man and chanted racist remarks at him, on Saturday, March 20 at around 6.15pm.

When challenged by a woman the group chanted further obscenities and became abusive towards her.

PC Christopher Haughton, of BTP said: “The behaviour of these men was outrageous and has no place on the railway – or in the wider community.

“The abuse levelled at people who were simply trying to use the railway was unacceptable and we will do everything in our power to take action against those responsible.

“I am calling on anyone who was at the station at the time – or who has information about the incident – to come forward and help us trace these men.”

Anyone with information should call 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 442 of 20/03/10.
