DfT balks at Heathrow Airport's demand for £40m-a-year to use part of its Express line for Crossrail

Heathrow Airport is reported to be clashing with the Department of Transport over an annual £40millio payment to link Crossrail to its stations.

Heathrow paid more than £1billion building the Heathrow Express line connecting its terminals with London’s Paddington.

The Government wants to use part of the line for Crossrail, but is resisting demands for £40million every year.

If the Government loses then passengers could face higher charges to use the service.

A Heathrow spokesman said: ‘In order to comply with EU regulations, Heathrow was required to introduce a new charging regime for access on to its rail infrastructure.’
