Charing Cross station was evacuated today due to a fire on a train.

The blaze was described as a 'small fire in the front carriage' by emergency workers.

The fire brigade said 'about five per cent' of the front carriage was alight.

London Fire Brigade posted online just before midday: "The fire on a train a Charing Cross station is under control, it was a small fire in the front carriage."

Trains were expected to be delayed for up to an hour and a half. Knock on delays were expected. National Rail said there was disruption between Charing Cross, London Blackfriars and London Bridge until at least 1.30pm.

No injuries were reported.

The CEO of Soap and Glory, Vincenzo Minore,  posted dramatic pictures of him fleeing the burning train.

He posted: "Just running away from Charing Cross station. Fire run run run"

He said the train caught on fire when it started to move. He described scenes of panic and said he did not see any casualties.

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 10.55am to reports of a fire on a train at Charing Cross.

"We sent a duty manager to the scene and two patients were checked over, but nobody was taken to hospital.
