Network Rail Consulting appoints general manager to spearhead Australia and New Zealand business

As part of its continued international expansion, Network Rail Consulting has established a business in Sydney to deliver services to the rail industry across the Australia and New Zealand region. Peter Koning has been appointed to lead this operation.

Peter joins from AECOM Australia, where he was director leading the rail operations, asset management and rail reform work streams. Peter has been directly involved in some Australia’s most important rail programs, including the recent high-speed rail feasibility study and performing as the shadow rail operator for Sydney’s prestigious North West Rail Link and Brisbane’s Cross River Rail project.

Peter brings to Network Rail Consulting an in-depth knowledge of the Australian and European rail industries. He has a strong background in rail operations, strategic planning and system regulation, having previously held appointments with British Rail and Network Rail.

Commenting on the establishment of an Australia and New Zealand subsidiary, Nigel Ash, managing director of Network Rail Consulting, said: “The opening of our office in Sydney is a landmark for our enterprise. Our presence will give us the opportunity to work and interact directly with our colleagues in the Australian and New Zealand rail industries. As general manager, Peter will give us leadership and guidance as we look to expand our work in this vibrant and exciting market.”

Peter has a first-class degree in Business Administration and an MSc in Transport.
