Depot manager Graham Crank said: "This is a very exciting time for us. We are making a significant investment into our Stoke-on-Trent workshop as part of our bid to improve our facilities and increase our workload.

"We want to make a positive investment in the area to help rejuvenate and regenerate Stoke-on-Trent and are looking for local people to help us do that."

The technicians will be required to carry out routine maintenance and repairs on rolling stock wagons. They must be able to start work at the Whieldon Road site within the next two months.

Shifts range from 7am until 4.30pm and 8.30pm until 6am every day.

Mr Crank, aged 48, of Crewe, added: "The benefit of employing local people is that our workers aren't travelling too far and remain loyal and reliable.

"This investment comes down to the simple fact that we have more people wanting more work from us and it is important to us that we have new technology to help meet this demand.

"We want to move on from the historic production process and bring it into the 21st century."

The recruitment event takes place from 9am to 9pm tomorrow at the Moat House Hotel, Festival Park.

Applicants will then be shortlisted and invited for an interview and assessment at the Britannia Stadium.

North Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce chief executive Sara Williams said: "It is extremely encouraging to hear about the increase in jobs.

"At a time when rail stories are much in the news, it is good to see that local companies are leading in excellence in producing the infrastructure that is needed to keep the country going."
