A BOOZED-up Wigan business man who racially abused and assaulted a railway security guard was ordered by justices to pay him £100 compensation.

Shaun Abbott, 33, was sentenced to 40 hours’ unpaid work and to attend an alcohol programme. Manchester Magsitrates Court chairman Wallace Johnson said: “You had drunk a significant amount of alcohol and attacked a public servant who was only trying to help you. What you did was disgraceful”. Making the compensation order, Mr Johnson said: “Maybe the guard can have a couple of nice nights out.”

Abbott, of Gidlow Lane, Gidlow, pleaded guilty to a racially-aggravated assault on Leonard Eze on February 23. Prosecutor Kerry Bell said Abbott, who was “significantly drunk,” had lost his temper in the Pumpkin Bar at Victoria Station after asking for directions to the toilet. Told he was going the wrong way, he shouted a racist remark to Mr Eze and then held him in a headlock.

Abbott was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £60 surcharge.
