RAILWAY enthusiasts across Lancashire can take a trip down memory lane by reliving the golden age of steam at a new exhibition being staged in South Ribble.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Dr Beeching’s report on reshaping Britain’s railways, which led to far-reaching changes to the railway network.

Events are being planned nationally to mark the anniversary and South Ribble Council is hosting an exhibition taking a nostalgic look at the golden age of the steam railway.

A programme of activities and events, based on the theme Changing Tracks, is also being planned by Lancashire Libraries to promote the county’s railway heritage later this year.

Featuring an extensive collection of railway memorabilia, including documents, prints and pictures, the Golden Age of Steam exhibition is now open at South Ribble Museum and runs until Saturday February 2.

South Ribble Museum is on Church Road in Leyland.

It is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10am-4pm, Thursdays 1pm-4pm, and Saturdays 10am-1pm.
