Amtrak requests funds for flood prevention, redundancy
Amtrak has asked for $336 million in emergency federal funding after Hurricane Sandy. Money would be used to install high-density signaling systems in four tunnels in New York; rebuild an electrical substation in New Jersey and make it large enough to expand capacity; and conduct design and early construction details for the Gateway Program to "provide permanent and substantial new levels of flood prevention, redundancy and capacity," said Amtrak President and CEO Joe Boardman.
