Railroads to invest $23B using private funds in 2012, says AAR
The U.S. freight rail industry is poised to invest $23 billion using private dollars for infrastructure enhancements this year "so taxpayers don't have to," said Association of American Railroads President and CEO Edward Hamberger. "These investments ... help keep American businesses competitive in the global marketplace, while supporting not only railroad jobs, but also supporting jobs throughout the economy. And by investing more than $500 billion since 1980, we have created the best freight rail network in the world." RT&S online (10/1)
