Last updated Thu 28 Jun 2012
A spokesperson for Virgin Trains has told ITV Border that the 17:20 Birmingham to Glasgow service caught fire near to Lockerbie station.

The train consisted of two diesel powered trains joined together.

Passengers are understood to have been evacuated from the front train then walked along the tracks to get onboard the rear train. The two trains are then thought to have been decoupled with the rear train used to return the passengers to Lockerbie station.

Replacement bus services were operating between Carlisle and Preston.
