Photography exhibition inspired by days of steam

A PHOTO exhibition has opened showing off students’ snaps inspired by the railway works.

Called Nine, the exhibition is open until March 22 and attracted around 60 people to Steam museum on its opening night.

Nine HND Photography students from Swindon College took the photographs of the displays and collections at the museum as part of their final year studies.

Course leader Greg Rendell said: “The students were a little nervous beforehand, but the work went down well with the 60 people who came through the door.

“We were pleased to work with Steam and it was great for the students to put it together, from taking the photos to hanging them, sending out invites and doing press releases. They really got the experience of putting a show together.

“What’s interesting is the way we’ve hung using fishing wire, so when you are on the mezzanine floor, they are almost floating.

“Some of the photos are quite abstract and others are more documentary, but the quality of the work is very high. It was the first time we have put on a show like this and they did a really good job.”

Nine is free with normal admission and is in the special exhibition area.
