Santa swops sleigh for tree planting at railway

A SPECIAL volunteer was drafted in to help plant trees Midland Railway – Butterley.


For Santa was called on to help plant trees, which had been donated to the tourist attraction by the Woodland Trust, and will brighten up the museum complex at Swanwick Junction site.

Alan Calladine, the Midland Railway Trust Development Officer, said: “We were very pleased that Santa was able to help with the planting.

“The railway is keeping him very busy on the Santa Special trains but he still had chance to help with this job as well. We are hoping to get all the trees in by the end of the year and look forward to seeing them grow over the years.”

Victoria Hodson from the Woodland Trust added: “We are delighted that The Midland Railway Trust are using our free tree scheme to plant more trees at Swanwick Junction. Communities are transforming their neighbourhoods, growing their own fruits creating shade and shelter, and providing new homes for wildlife.”
