A woman from Wokingham who fell from a railway bridge and was hit by a train last week has had both legs amputated.

The 60-year-old woman had one leg amputated above the knee and the other removed below the knee at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. The fall was at a railway bridge in Tilehurst Road, Reading.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “She’s likely to be in hospital for weeks, even months, she’s not entirely stable – there are concerns about her heart.”

The woman fell from the bridge at 7.10pm on Thursday, October 27, and was hit by a train on its way to Basingstoke.

BTP say they are not treating the incident as suspicious.

The police helicopter landed in Kensington Park in case the woman needed airlifting to hospital, but she was taken by ambulance.
