National Express said third-quarter revenues rose, boosted by strong performances from its British rail and US school bus businesses.

National Express, an operator of coach, bus and rail services, said revenues at its UK rail division grew six per cent in the three months to the end of September, with British bus sales rising two per cent.

Revenues at its North America school bus business rose 10 per cent, while its Spanish bus business continued to recover.

"We have delivered good revenue growth and further improvements in efficiency and we have clear plans to continue to improve revenue and profitability in the future," Dean Finch, National Express' chief executive said.

The company, which recently acquired US student bus group Petermann Partners, said it had won contracts in the US to add 600 new buses and that volume in existing contracts had been stable.

National Express said it would seek pre-qualification for the replacement c2c UK rail franchise due to operate from 2013 and would selectively consider other franchise opportunities as they emerge.
