A VIOLENT mugger is behind bars after admitting accosting victims in Ellesmere Port, Chester and Crewe.

Anthony Hamlett, 20, of Ellesmere Port, was sentenced to nearly four years in jail at Chester Crown Court on Friday.

On March 2 , Hamlett robbed a 24-year-old in Ellesmere Port. He threatened his victim and stole his phone and wallet before frogmarching him to a cash point taking £300 from his account.

Just two weeks later, Hamlett committed another two robberies in the space of 10 minutes on City Road and Station Road in Chester, again approaching young men and threatening them to hand over cash.

The following day, he attempted to rob a young man at Crewe Railway Station.

He approached him on a train and started speaking to him before demanding he hand over money.

The victim managed to get away and alert police, who arrested Hamlett at the railway station.

DC Stuart Thomas, who investigated the case said: “Hamlett’s criminal behaviour was exacerbated by the fact that he was on bail for a separate offence of perverting the course of justice at the time he committed the robberies.

“He has a propensity to commit violent offences and puts his victims in risk of serious harm.

“I’m pleased the court has imprisoned this dangerous person and removed him from our streets.”
