LOCOMOTION: The National Railway Museum at Shildon was delighted to welcome the APT-E Conservation & Support Group to the museum on Saturday to celebrate several key dates in the APT project's history with a reunion event.

British Rail’s experimental advanced passenger tilting train made its first run on July 25, 1972, from Derby to Duffield. On August 10, 1975, it achieved a new British railway speed record, hitting 152.3mph, a record that still stands as the fastest non-electric train.

2011 is the 36th annivers- ary since the speed record; 40 years since the first trial run of POP train, the first tilting test vehicle; and 35 years since the train was delivered to the NRM at York.
