First Great Western look for more staff in Reading

Get back on rails with a job on the trains

April 05, 2011

Train operator First Great Western (FGW) is one of town’s top employers and the business will be encouraging more people to join up at the Reading Job Fair.

Julian Perry, FGW’s regional resourcing manager, said: “We are a major employer in Reading and we do look for a lot of people around the region, especially for Reading Station and other stations on the Great Western line.

“We are looking for people not just from the rail industry but people from the customer service side.

“We are really at the job fair to tell people we recruit a lot of people and offer a lot more than just the jobs done by people you see on the platform.

“What we will be doing is trying to get people to look at our website regularly because if we haven’t got anything suitable today we might have next week.”

He added: “We have examples of people who came in at quite a low level and have worked there way up to regional managers.

“There are a lot of good stories we can tell people who come to our stand to see us.”

The Reading Job Fair takes place on Thursday at Reading Town Hall from 10.30am to 6pm. Entrance is free
