Model railway event in Warminster on track for success

Warminster and District Model Railway Club had the biggest turnout so far for its annual exhibition, with more than 800 people admiring model railways, road vehicles and steam engines.

The exhibition, which was held at Warminster Sports Centre on Saturday, had 34 stalls including model railways, road vehicles, live steam engines and traders for them to inspect.

Club chairman Eric Walford, a professional model engine builder, formed the club 36 years ago.

He said: “I’m very pleased with the turnout and the support we been given by new visitors. We were 300 visitors up on last year.

“We’re certainly one of the biggest shows in Wiltshire. We’re a very friendly show which is well known and that’s why people come back.

“Our exhibitors are all skilled model makers and are either top amateurs or professionals.”

The event attracted visitors from as far afield as Essex, Suffolk, South Yorkshire. Norfolk, Kent, Sussex, Dorset, Hampshire, and Wales.

During its 36-year history the event has raised more than £15,000 for charity and this year collected money for Great Ormond Street Hospital, Blue Cross Animal Homes, Mayhew Animal Homes and Children In Need.

The club has already booked the sports centre for its annual exhibition next year, which will be held on February 18.
