Many Dead As Two Trains Crash In Egypt

Rescuers are continuing to search for survivors after two trains crashed outside Cairo in Egypt killing at least 25 people.

At least one carriage overturned and there are reports of passengers being trapped. At least than 55 people are injured. The death toll is expected to increase. The accident happened in the al Ayyat area of Giza, 25 miles southwest of the capital.

A first-class passenger train rammed into a mainly empty train that had stopped unexpectedly, after apparently hitting a cow.

Security sources said the moving train was from Cairo to Aswan,

Egypt has a poor safety record on its railways, and there have been several fatal accidents every year, usually blamed on poorly maintained equipment.

Al-Ayyat was the scene of Egypt's deadliest train crash, when the bodies of at least 361 passengers were recovered from a train following a fire in February, 2002.
