Woman collapses on Waterloo to Reading train causing delays for commuters

Rail commuters faced delays today after a woman collapsed on a train.

The 23-year-old became ill and fell unconscious on a train at Richmond station at about 8.35am.

A guard on the Waterloo to Reading train told passengers the woman had "been ill" and called for any doctors on board to offer assistance.

The train was held at the station until 8.55am while an ambulance was called.

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 8.40am to reports of a person taken unwell at Richmond railway station.

"We sent one ambulance crew and our staff treated a 23-year-old woman, and she was taken to Kingston Hospital."

The incident delayed South West Trains (SWT) services by about 20 minutes.

SWT had run reduced services since last Thursday following snow and freezing temperatures.

However, a full timetable of services was running today, the train operator said.
