Security alert shuts Blackburn railway station

BLACKBURN station was closed this afternoon after a security alert aboard a train from Manchester.

British Transport Police said a note was found on the midday train to Clitheroe as it came in to the station at around 1pm.

The note suggested to the Northern Rail official that there was an explosive device on board, police said.

The train was evacuated and the station shut down.

After a search of the carriages by specially trained sniffer dogs no device was found and the station is now back to normal.
